Julian is a historic gold mining town located approximately an hour east of San Diego. It is the premier mountain retreat in the county and is unique in that it has four seasons. Spring brings the blossoming of many flowers including daffodils, summer is perfect for hiking and stargazing, fall is famous for our apples and fall colors, and winter brings snowfalls and bright, crisp days.
Famous for apple pie, gold mines, and local wineries, Julian has become the center for visitors from all over who are looking for a stay in the mountains with opportunities for day trips of hiking, casinos, wildlife preserves, and desert adventures. Here are a few more ways to enjoy Julian:
The Julian Dark Sky Network is an organization whose mission is to preserve the dark skies of Julian, CA. Julian is part of the 1% of the U.S. that can still see the Milky Way. Its distance from the urban glow of San Diego’s skies and the surrounding mountains help with the sky quality. There are many dark sky events throughout the year.
Every year Julian hosts a myriad of fun-filled activities, some with traditions dating back for a hundred years and others that reflect the distinctive four seasons and their natural beauty. Check out VisitJulian.com for a list of popular events scheduled throughout the year.
Throughout the years, the Julian Arts Guild has grown into a non-profit organization with three annual art shows, workshops, demonstrations, an artist studio tour, and speakers at monthly meetings. The Julian Arts Guild is made up of a diverse group of artists working in varied mediums, as well as literary writers and authors, and a choral group.
